About Us > Playhouse History
We started in the dinner theatre business in 1975 producing our own plays and staging them in local restaurants. We soon realized that in order to provide the kind of quality and service we believe in, we would have to design our own facility. So, in 1979 with a detailed renovation plan, we purchased the historic Hunterdon Hills Playhouse. Until the 1960's this popular entertainment center played host to summer stock productions and big-name vaudeville performers. Before the renovations got underway, the Playhouse was destroyed by a fire, bringing its colorful history to an end.
Undaunted, we started our search for a new location. In 1980, we found the perfect spot, just 2 miles from the original site, in the rolling hills of Hunterdon County - a pristine setting with a central location in the tri-state area and easy access to the highways.
In 1981, we opened our doors to rave reviews from critics and patrons alike. We had finally realized our dream - the ultimate in atmosphere, dining and live theatre... |
